Lack, who since 2015 has led NBC News through the Brian Williams, Matt Lauer and Ronan Farrow/Harvey Weinstein scandals, will step down at the end of the month. Former Telemundo executive Cesar Conde will assume the new role of chairman, NBCUniversal News Group, overseeing NBC News, MSNBC and CNBC. Last October, Variety reported that controversial NBC News president Noah Oppenheim was the most likely to succeed Lack. Instead, Oppenheim will stay in his job. NBC also announced the creation of a new division, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, that will be headed by Mark Lazarus as chairman.
