NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt points to the success of the Golden Globes as proof that the Peacock can handle awards shows differently. Che and Jost will be accompanied by several Saturday Night Live alums on Monday's Emmys broadcast, including Fred Armisen and Maya Rudolph. SNL alums Seth Meyers, John Mulaney, Andy Samberg and Jimmy Fallon have also pitched in with their ideas. “We take the awards shows very seriously,” says Greenblatt. “They are really hard to pull off and make fresh in today’s world. We have all seen so many of them.” Will the show focus on politics? “It’s kind of hard to avoid it. It’s in the front of everybody’s brains,” says Che. Greenblatt adds: "There will be things mentioned that are about politics and that sort of thing. But I think the emphasis will be on television and pop culture.”
