The stars of the Netflix series based on Ann M. Martin’s young adult novels announced the news in a video of them singing the updated theme song. Season 2 is expected to premiere in 2021 with Rachel Shukert returning as showrunner. The Baby-Sitters Club's renewal is notable because it seems like Netflix has been more likely to cancel than renew freshman shows these days, as Variety's Caroline Framke notes. "An increasingly rare Netflix renewal of a one-season show that extremely deserves it!!" she tweeted. The A.V. Club's Shannon Miller adds: "The news arrives to a collective sigh of relief from longtime fans of the Scholastic series and anyone else who is desperately grasping for shreds of good news to get them through the next week. It’s great to see something so pure survived the odds."
