Eddie Gonzalez, one of the Netflix inner-city teen drama's three creators, was asked by Vulture what it's like to be a Latino writer working for Netflix after it canceled the critically acclaimed Latinx comedy. "It’s not so much what the show accomplished in terms of whatever ratings or critical attention," he says. "It furthered the conversation about Latinos on TV. That’s what it did. This is all baby steps. It may take a few more years, but the fact that people are talking about that? To me, that is a huge home run. I’d rather have that than a show that came and went and no one talked about it." Gonzalez also spoke about Season 2 of On My Block, saying he wanted to be careful not to turn it into an after-school special.
