Less than 24 hours after One Day at a Time was canceled for a second time, Gomez has booked a gig on a reboot of another sitcom from the 1980s. In the gender-swapped reboot, Gomez will take on the Howard Hessman role from the original series, playing first-time teacher Alicia Adams. "Gomez’s Alicia Adams is a whip-smart, funny, blunt, high school teacher we all wish we had," per Deadline. "A former GPA junkie, Alicia thought she had the world all figured out when she was in school. Teaching for the first time, Alicia’s is figuring out what she really wants in life." American Vandal writers Amy Pocha and Seth Cohen are behind the Head of the Class reboot, which received an order for a pilot and five additional scripts. As Deadline notes, Gomez's casting is unlikely to affect the future of One Day at a Time if it finds a new home, since she can do both series. On Tuesday, Gomez tweeted of the cancelation: "Maybe third network’s the charm?...Seriously, regardless of what happens, familia para siempre. And I’ll have a sappy post coming when we find out which way this goes. I love you guys."
