Because theaters are closed, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences voted to allow movies that premiere on streaming services or video on demand to be eligible for next year's Oscars. But only movies that were originally intended for a theatrical release will be eligible. The rule will end on a to-be-determined date after theaters in Los Angeles reopen.
