P.J. O'Rourke, the irreverent political commentator who had a brief stint on 60 Minutes in 1996, dies at 74

From February to June 1996, O'Rourke was tapped along with Molly Ivins and Stanley Crouch to do a hipper version of the “Point/Counterpoint” opinion-wrestling that went on between columnists Shana Alexander and James Kirkpatrick. But after eight outings, then-60 Minutes executive producer Don Hewitt pulled the plug on the segment. O'Rourke also played himself on the pilot of True Blood.
