Networks are bidding to land the star-studded limited series based on author Celeste Ng's book that was a Witherspoon book club pick just a few months ago. According to The Hollywood Reporter, "a parade of network execs took meetings Wednesday at Witherspoon's Hello Sunshine offices this week in a bid to land the series." Life Unexpected creator Liz Tigelaar, who is currently working on Witherspoon's Apple morning show drama, will pen the script and serve as showrunner in the limited series revolving around the controversial adoption of a Chinese-American baby, which divides the wealthy city of Shaker Heights, Ohio. Washington will also join Witherspoon in executive producing the series, which will be her follow-up to Scandal.
