Report: American Idol is struggling with Katy Perry’s tardiness and a lack of comedic tension between judges

Perry is “almost always late” to the audition rounds, according to TMZ, which adds that another concern is the lack of comedic tension that helped make the original Idol a hit with banter between Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell. “Katy is really fun, Lionel (Richie) has a strong point of view and Luke (Bryan)'s pure country,” says TMZ. “But they're not at each other's throats, either in a serious or funny way, and some honchos are worried that's the kind of heat that makes a show a hit.”
