In an Interview magazine chat with Judge Judy Sheindlin, RuPaul Charles recalled how getting a Walk of Fame star in March 2018 influenced his new Netflix series. “I’ve been famous for a long time and I’ve had lots of accolades, but that was a really special one for me,” When Judge Judy asked why, RuPaul said the career milestone “spoke to that little kid who still lives inside” of him. RuPaul says AJ and the Queen, revolving around the relationship between his drag queen character Ruby Red and an 11-year-old orphan, allowed him to "revisit myself as a kid. It was a trip. I’ve never done anything like that before. It was the most challenging thing for me as an actor and as a human."
