Coming from the basic cable world of FX, Murphy and co-creator Ian Brennan tried to make their new Netflix series streaming-friendly, but they ultimately opted against using a lot of profanity and sexually explicit scenes. “In the construction of it, we were always very cautious of what is the way to end this episode so that somebody leans in and demands to see the next one?” he tells The New York Times. “We’ll see if that worked, but that’s what we were always thinking about.” He adds: “I think a family could watch it together. There’s not a lot of foul language. There’s not a lot of in-your-face sexuality.” Murphy also reveals that The Politician cost as much as The Crown, but it's not his most expensive series -- he has two more Netflix series that will cost more. “I’m trying to do things that are big and commercial, fun and shiny,” he says. “They didn’t ask me to come there to make some grainy, drab creation.”
