Woodley starred in the 2008-2013 ABC Family drama as a 15-year-old who becomes a teenage mother after becoming pregnant at band camp. In a Bustle profile, Woodley says she initially signed on because she liked the scripts for the first three episodes. But over the course of the six seasons that she signed up for, Woodley says she became dissatisfied with The Secret Life of the American Teenager's pro-abstinence message. “There were a lot of things that were written into the scripts that not just me, but a lot of the cast, disagreed with,” says Woodley. “There were belief systems that were pushed that were different than my own. Yet legally I was stuck there. To this day it’s one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do. So being on Secret Life propelled me to be more vocal about my own belief systems.”
