Aquaman and Saw director James Wan is helping develop the DC Comics character for the upcoming DC Universe streaming service, with Mark Verheiden and Gary Dauberman serving as showrunners. The humanoid/plant elemental character first appeared in 1971, created by writer Len Wein and artist Bernie Wrightson. Swamp Thing follows scientist Alec Holland, who is killed by a bomb while working on a secretive project in the swamps of Louisiana, only to reemerge after death. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Swamp Things "has a script-to-series order. That means if the script comes in well, the drama would then be picked up straight to series." ALSO: DC Comics has confirmed that the DC digital service will be called "DC Universe."
