While Left Bank Pictures is talking to Netflix, a prequel series that would start with the death of Queen Victoria in 1901 and include Edward VIII's 1936 abdication crisis and the rise of fascism in Europe. According to The Daily Mail, The Crown creator Peter Morgan would write the potential series.
