The CBS All Access drama writers already tackled illegal immigration and border politics in Season 2. But they opted not to do an ICE-focused storyline for Season 3, despite being a show that tries to respond to the Trump administration. “(The firm) were going to be in court and, because of this whole thing where children have to represent themselves on the border, which is a Catch-22 like absurdity,” explains co-creator Robert King. “Boseman (Delroy Lindo) was going to be in immigration court representing a rich client when he sees this 3-year-old who’s got a counselor but has no lawyer, and he starts finding himself representing kids. The problem we have is there’s so much earnestness behind it, you’re always looking for something that takes it out of that earnestness.”
