Three years after leaving The CW, Dobrev has signed on to star in a CBS family comedy pilot where she plays a "grounded, deeply funny, quick-witted and outspoken" woman whose younger half-sister flees their "train wreck" of a father to live with her and her fiancé. The only problem is Dobrev's character told her fiancé and their circle of friends that her father was dead, when she hasn't actually seen him in 10 years. Since her exit from The Vampire Diaries in 2015, Dobrev has focused her career on the movies, except for a cameo on The CW cult hit's series finale last year.
