The 80-year-old Brokaw, who anchored NBC Nightly News for 22 years from 1982 to 2004, announced Friday that he is formally retiring from the network. “During one of the most complex and consequential eras in American history, a new generation of NBC News journalists, producers and technicians is providing America with timely, insightful and critically important information, 24/7. I could not be more proud of them,” Brokaw said in a statement. Brokaw, who had been serving as a special correspondent since leaving Nightly News, joined NBC News in 1966, reporting from Los Angeles and anchoring the 11 p.m. news for KNBC.
