Oliver devoted his main segment last night to slamming the WWE, one week before WrestleMania, arguing that Vince McMahon has mistreated wrestlers over the years, especially when it comes to their health. “Wrestlers’ bodies regularly get smashed up and undergo general wear and tear, damage that’s cumulative and can last a lifetime,” Oliver said. “But McMahon doesn’t provide health insurance for his wrestlers for anything other than injuries that occur inside the ring." WWE responded with a statement Monday saying: "John Oliver is clearly a clever and humorous entertainer, however, the subject matter covered in his WWE segment is no laughing matter. Prior to airing, WWE responded to his producers refuting every point in his one-sided presentation. John Oliver simply ignored the facts. The health and wellness of our performers is the single most important aspect of our business, and we have a comprehensive, longstanding Talent Wellness program. We invite John Oliver to attend WrestleMania this Sunday to learn more about our company." This was the second time in the past six months that Oliver has gone after the WWE. In October, he criticized the organization for its pact with Saudi Arabia after the death of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi.
