Created Equal: Clarence Thomas in His Own Words, a 2020 documentary culled from more than 30 hours of interviews with the Supreme Court justice, was yanked from the streaming service on Feb. 8 with no explanation. The documentary began airing on PBS last May and premiered on Amazon Prime last October. Director Michael Pack says he was never given an explanation for why the documentary was pulled. “Our distributor, who’s the one who made the deal with Amazon, has repeatedly asked them for explanations but they haven’t given any,” Pack told the Wall Street Journal. “They have the right to pull anything from their site, and they don’t have to give an explanation. So it’s not a contract violation. But many people have complained, and they haven’t put it back up.” Pack points out the film was doing well on Amazon, and was briefly No. 1 among documentaries. Pack was particularly dismayed that his film was pulled during Black History Month.
