Some television executives at the RealScreen Summit this week expressed skepticism that viewers will want to watch shows grappling with the effects of sexual misconduct. The problem, as former E! executive Jenny Daly put it, is that the #MeToo movement has largely focused on the media and entertainment industry — it’s not an “equal opportunity movement.” “I know when I’ve brought up other programming like that to speak to networks, (the reaction) has been ‘It won’t appeal to our middle America audience,'” says Daly.
