Brian Cox Is Tired Of Telling Succession Fans to 'F*ck Off'

When Brian Cox took on the role of patriarch Logan Roy on HBO's hit drama Succession, he had no idea how strangely the character would impact his interactions with fans. During The Hollywood Reporter's Drama Actor Roundtable, the actor revealed he's frequently asked to say Roy's trademark phrase "f*ck off!" to fans' faces, an act he's not exactly comfortable doing.

"People ask me to tell them to f*ck off all the time," Cox said. "Well, it's not the easiest thing to say to people. I mean, it started when I was playing L.B.J. in one of those theaters in New York. I came out one night and there was this young couple, very sweet, about 17, and they had a video and they said, 'Could you tell us to f*ck off, please?' I mean, it's unbelievable."

As if the request isn't bad enough, Cox went on to say just how uninhibited fans are when it comes to their desire to hear the Emmy-winning actor sling profanities. Cox described attending a #MeToo event in Los Angeles and being asked to insult the women in attendance.

"The worst was here in LA when I went to a meeting for Ronan Farrow," he recalled. "All these Hollywood women were there and it was very intense. And I was standing at the back and then [the women] all turned around and saw me and they [pointed a] camera and said, 'Can you tell us to f*ck off?'"

Cox expressed his fear that the moment could ruin his career if taken out of context, saying, "I was like, 'This is a #MeToo meeting, is this really proper to be asking me to tell you to f*ck off? And does that mean that I get canceled?'"
