Busisiwe Lurayi, the star of Netflix's How to Ruin Christmas, died suddenly on Sunday.

Lurayi's agency, Johannesburg-based Eye Media Artists, confirmed her death in an Instagram post, stating that the actor "passed away suddenly and was pronounced dead at her residence on Sunday."

"The reason for her death is still unknown as we await the results of the autopsy report," the agency added.

Netflix also paid tribute to Lurayi, who was in her mid-30s, on Instagram. "An incredible light has gone out in the South African entertainment industry," wrote the Netflix South Africa account. "We will hold onto the laughs, the beauty and all the moments of joy she brought us."

How to Ruin Christmas: The Wedding premiered in 2020, and Season 2, titled How to Ruin Christmas: The Funeral, debuted the following year. The South African comedy stars Lurayi as Tumi, a young woman who must make things right after she ruins her sister's picture-perfect Christmas wedding.

A third season, How to Ruin Christmas: The Baby Shower, began production last month, Netflix announced on social media at the time.

In addition to How to Ruin Christmas, Lurayi also appeared in nine episodes of Wild at Heart and one episode of ER. She is survived by her daughter.
