Think you need a break from your in-laws? You're probably better off than Chelsea Handler, who was driven so "crazy" by her "pretty annoying" sister-in-law that she jumped off a sailboat and swam to shore for medicinal intervention meant for... her dog.
In a Tuesday night interview on Late Night with Seth Meyers, the comedian revealed that while on a family vacation to Spain she "electively" took "doggy Xanax" for days in an attempt to "temper her temper" around her sister-in-law, who Handler described as overprotective of her adult sons. "I have a bad reaction to people that annoy me," she joked.
The "doggy medicine," which was presumably prescribed by a vet, was intended to help ease her dog's nerves during the international flight. But according to Handler, her aunt told her it was the same as Xanax for humans. "I was like, 'Great! Give it to me.' Like that'll take the edge off!" she told Meyers.
However, the plan backfired. Handler seemingly experienced no negative reactions from taking the dog medicine for the rest of her trip, but she told Meyers that the flight back "was a sh*t show." Explained Handler, "I realized I had taken all of my dog's medicine to get him back to the States ... I was woken up by one of the flight attendants, who told me my dog was running around the first class area."
Handler assured Meyers that "everything worked out fine" but joked that she hasn't returned to Spain since, saying, "I just figured I should give the whole region a break."
Late Night with Seth Meyers airs weeknights at 12:35 a.m. EST on NBC.
