HBO Max's Green Lantern series is getting an overhaul.
The comic book adaptation, which has been in the works since 2019, has lost showrunner and writer Seth Grahame-Smith after completing scripts for a full season of eight episodes. The series was originally set to revolve around Guy Gardner (Finn Wittrock) and Alan Scott (Jeremy Irvine), but the creative overhaul will shift the show's focus to John Stewart, one of DC's first Black superheroes.
The decision comes after several regime changes within DC, HBO Max, and Warner Bros. Television caused a shift in creative direction. It is not clear if Wittrock or Irvine will continue to star in the show.
First announced in 2019, the Green Lantern series was set to "reinvent the classic DC property". Executive producer Greg Berlanti remains the only creative force on board from the show's early days of development.
A new creative team for Green Lantern has not been announced yet.
