A new documentary about Princess Diana is coming to HBO next month to mark the 25th anniversary of her tragic death.

The Princess will provide "an intimate and immersive look at the life of Princess Diana," said HBO in a statement. The film draws from archival audio and video footage from Diana's life, taking a look at the relationship between Diana and Prince Charles, the birth of their two sons, their divorce, and Diana's death.

HBO calls the documentary "a visceral submersion into Diana's life in the constant and often intrusive glare of the media spotlight."

The film tells the story "as if it were in the present," giving viewers a chance to experience the worldwide adoration and scrutiny the princess experienced. In doing so, The Princess aims to hold up a mirror to society at the time, bringing us into the public's "preoccupations, fears, aspirations, and desires."

Directed by Academy Award nominee Ed Perkins (Black Sheep, Tell Me Who I Am), The Princess premieres Saturday, August 13 at 8:00 PM ET on HBO and will be available to stream on HBO Max.
