Marvel is producing a Wonder Man series based on the comic book character first introduced in 1964, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Wonder Man first appeared in "Avengers No. 9" as a villain. In the early Marvel days, he only made sporadic appearances in the comics, but in the late 1970s, he was reconceived as a hero and an Avenger.

In the 1980s, Wonder Man, known as Simon Williams, became a founding member of the Los Angeles-based West Coast Avengers, working a day job as an actor and stuntman.

In the comics, the character also has connections to Vision and Wanda/Scarlet Witch and at one point develops feelings for Wanda after Vision is dismantled.

Disney+'s Wonder Man series will be executive produced by Daniel Cretton, who also directed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, with Andrew Guest (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) serving as head writer.

Development for Wonder Man is still in the early stages, but production could begin as early as 2023.

Deena ElGenaidi's writing has been featured in Nylon, MTV News, Insider, The AV Club, and more. You can follow her on Twitter @deenaelg.
