A promotional mishap has accidentally spoiled the upcoming season of Netflix's Stranger Things. According to The Hollywood Reporter, images from a tie-in Monopoly game leaked online last month, spoiling major plot points ahead of the Season 4 premiere on May 27.

THR adds that creators Matt and Ross Duffer had a "total meltdown" when they heard about the incident.

A Reddit thread about the situation claimed that the game was purchased at “a nationally recognized retailer and purchased fair and square by a consumer. Nobody stole it; nobody leaked a sample.” Details of the purchase have not been confirmed, but the game is being advertised by retailers, and there are some copies being advertised on eBay.

One source told THR that although producers have a lot of involvement in promotional material, the scope of Stranger Things products is far greater than that of any other Netflix show, so this game must have passed through by accident. "Lessons have been learned and, I expect, there will be more cohesion going into season five," the source said.

The first half of Stranger Things Season 4, dubbed "Volume 1," premieres May 27, with the second half, "Volume 2," premiering on July 1. Previous seasons are currently streaming on Netflix.
