Netflix barely gave viewers a chance to breathe between Seasons 3 and 4 of Love Is Blind, allowing just six weeks between the revelations of Season 3’s After the Altar special, like SK’s betrayal of Raven, and the arrival of mean girls Micah and Irina in Season 4. It’s indicative of the streamer’s reality TV firehose, which is releasing low-budget unscripted series faster than we can possibly consume them. And it seems that the flow of Love Is Blind content won’t be stopping anytime soon — even though Netflix has only officially renewed the reality dating show through Season 5, there could be as many as three more seasons in the works this year.
Kinetic Content, the casting agency behind Love Is Blind and Married at First Sight, published an Instagram post on March 29 calling for singles in Denver, St. Paul and Minneapolis, and Washington, D.C. specifically for Love Is Blind. The application for each city is the same: a 78-question poll asking applicants if they have any conflicts from October 1 to November 20, 2023. The casting calls in those three locations would likely be for the yet announced sixth, seventh, and eighth seasons of the show — based on the series release schedule so far, Season 5 is likely air during fall 2023. Netflix did not respond to a request for comment about future seasons of the series.
Don’t get your hopes for much of a change to the structure — even though Netflix is spreading its wings with The Ultimatum: Queer Love, offering more LGBTQ+ representation in its stacked reality show lineup, Kinetic Casting confirmed in the comments of their Instagram post that the three seasons potentially in the works will still focus on heterosexual couples. We may not see a queer couple emerge from the pods until the show’s ninth season, if at all.
Part of Netflix’s marathon casting for the series could be in anticipation of a potential WGA strike — the guild called for a strike authorization vote to take place on April 11. The writer’s strike of 2008 similarly prompted a surge in unscripted television. But it seems Netflix was already poised to continue investing in the series either way. The Season 4 Love Is Blind reunion will be the second in-app live event produced by the streamer, following Chris Rock’s highly publicized live comedy special. Just as Selective Outrage was touted by Netflix executives as a symbol of the streamer’s dedication to comedy, this Love Is Blind special could similarly be Netflix signaling it will be putting even more attention on its reality dating programming, whether we like it or not. With no end in sight, that means hopeful singles wanting their time to shine on the show should just sit back — at this rate a casting call will be coming to a city near you in no time.
