Stranger Things is headed to the theater in a new stage adaptation from the Duffer Brothers, Netflix announced on Wednesday.

The stage play will be "set within the world and mythology of Stranger Things," Netflix said in a statement. It is being produced by Sonia Friedman, Stephen Daldry (The Crown, Billy Elliot, The Reader), and Netflix. Daldry will also direct.

After news of the Stranger Things play broke, fans were quick to mock the idea on Twitter. One Twitter user predicted, "Theme park and escape room to come," while others simply asked "why" the service is subjecting viewers to a live adaptation. One user even compared the news to Euphoria Season 2, in which the characters watch a stage play about their lives.

In addition to a stage play, the Duffer Brothers are also producing a live-action Stranger Things spinoff, which they told Variety will be "1000% different" than the original series.

The upcoming Stranger Things projects are part of a deal between the Duffer Brothers' new production company, Upside Down Pictures, and Netflix. Under the banner, the brothers will also be producing a live-action TV adaptation of Japanese manga and anime series Death Note, a series adaptation of Stephen King and Peter Straub's novel "The Talisman," and more

All episodes of Stranger Things 4 are currently streaming on Netflix.
