Rick and Morty join the world of anime in a new spinoff series, Rick and Morty: The Anime, from director Takashi Sano (Tower of God). The new series is currently in production and will premiere on Adult Swim and HBO Max.
Rick and Morty: The Anime is described as a "10-episode adventure" that brings the exploits of Rick and the gang into a new multiverse. While the new show will adapt themes and storylines from the main series, Rick and Morty: The Anime will be its own standalone series.
This is not the first time Rick and Morty has explored the anime world: Sano previously directed two anime shorts, Rick and Morty vs. Genocider and Summer Meets God (Rick Meets Evil), which have generated over 10 million combined views on Adult Swim's YouTube channel.
"The multiverse-straddling exploits of Rick and the gang pose challenges to the family bond, but they always rise to the occasion," Sano said in a statement. "I am honored to have been given an opportunity to tell a new story about this amazing family. I hope you enjoy their adventures!"
Warner Media also announced on Wednesday that The Eric Andre Show has been renewed for a sixth season, dubbed "Season 666," airing on Adult Swim and HBO Max in 2023. Andre teased that the new season will feature "more deranged pranks, fire, and chaos," plus a host of celebrity guests, including Natasha Lyonne, Jon Hamm, Raven-Symoné, and Diplo.
