The fourth season of Stranger Things was highly anticipated by fans, but viewership ratings released Tuesday by Netflix indicate just how anticipated it really was. Since Stranger Things 4 premiered on May 27, it has been viewed for over 621 million hours, an astonishing figure that puts the new season in third place on Netflix's list of most popular English-language TV seasons.
Netflix calculates their Most Popular list based on viewership during a title’s first 28 days of availability on the streamer. The first and second place spots are currently held by Bridgerton Seasons 2 and 1, respectively, but Stranger Things 4 still has over two weeks to move even higher up the list. Given its current performance, the sci-fi series is poised to break the records held by both seasons of Bridgerton. On top of that, the second volume of Stranger Things 4 has yet to be released, with two additional episodes debuting July 1 on Netflix.
In its opening week alone, Netflix says Season 4 became the "most-watched season of English-language TV in a single week on Netflix with a staggering 335.01 million hours viewed." Since May 27, older seasons of the series have also climbed the charts, with Seasons 1 to 3 earning 75.08 million, 58.27 million, and 47.42 million hours viewed, respectively. The series also ranked #1 on Netflix's Top 10 lists in 91 countries, yet another first for an English-language series.
Stranger Things 4 Volume 1 is available to stream on Netflix. Volume 2 premieres July 1.
