Courteney Cox may play a woman living in a haunted house in Starz comedy Shining Vale, but she actually has firsthand experience with the supernatural. Tuesday night on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the Friends alum revealed that she once lived alongside spirits so creepy that she and Carole King (yes, that Carole King) attempted to do a séance to rid the house of their presence.
"I didn't believe at first," Cox told Kimmel. "But I lived in this house in Laurel Canyon, which is in L.A., obviously, and it was Gypsy Rose Lee's house and Carole King."
"So Carole King came over to my house and she said that there had been a divorce, that was really ugly, and there was a ghost in the house. And I was, like, yeah, whatever," she continued. "But other people who would stay there with me, like friends of mine, said they felt an encounter with a woman who was sitting on the edge of the bed. And I was, like, yeah, whatever."
The two "did a séance" to contact the ghost, but Cox admitted she "was just so in awe of her I didn't listen to a word."
"But then I was at the house one day not being a believer. And the doorbell rang. It was a UPS guy, or something, and I opened the door and he said 'Do you know this house is haunted?' And I go, 'Yeah, why? Why do you think that?'" she Shining Vale star continued. "And he goes, 'Because there is someone standing behind you.' And I was like, 'Let's sell!'"
Cox added that she "couldn't sleep there alone ever again," so selling was a no-brainer. "You just don't think of it the same way," she said. "You start seeing things."
