Dave Chappelle was attacked while performing Tuesday night at the Hollywood Bowl during the Netflix is a Joke comedy festival. Videos of the attack show a member of the audience rushing to the stage and tackling Chappelle before being accosted by his security team.
According to Variety, footage of the incident has been limited, as attendees were required to secure their phones in Yondr devices, but a few videos leaked online late Tuesday, including one in which Chappelle returns to the stage after the attack. "It was a trans man," he joked after the fact.
Chappelle also thanked actor Jamie Foxx, who is reported to have rushed to the stage to help. "Whenever you're in trouble, Jamie Foxx will show up in a sheriff's hat," said the comic, adding that he thought the incident "was part of the show."
