Who’s Who in AMC's Dispatches from Elsewhere

AMC’s Dispatches from Elsewhere follows four strangers from completely different walks of life as they attempt to solve a puzzle hidden just behind the veil of their everyday lives. Following the clues is only the first step on their journey however, as the four characters quickly find themselves embarking on a strange adventure together, one that may finally help them fill the respective voids in each of their lives. Created by Jason Segel, the hour-long anthology series promises to be a mind-bending and unpredictable new drama.

In addition to its whimsical premise, Dispatches from Elsewhere boasts an impressive cast of lead actors, including Segel himself. So, ahead of its premiere this weekend, here's a look at the show's stars, who they’re playing, and where you've seen them before:

Jason Segel as Peter

Segel is a TV veteran, having played Nick Andopolis on the beloved Freaks and Geeks, followed by a nine year stint as Marshall Erickson on How I Met Your Mother. He’s had a successful career on the big screen too, with roles in notable films like Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Knocked Up, I Love You, Man, Despicable Me, The Muppets, The End of the Tour, and more. On Dispatches from Elsewhere, which marks his first TV role since How I Met Your Mother ended in 2014, he plays Peter, a regular guy who feels like he’s living a meaningless life until he embarks on a journey to wake up, take risks, enjoy himself, and finally learn how to be emotionally vulnerable.

André Benjamin as Fredwynn

Better known as André 3000, aka one-half of OutKast, André Benjamin has been racking up film and TV credits since 2003. He’s appeared in films like Be Cool, Four Brothers, Semi-Pro, High Life, and played Jimi Hendrix in 2013’s Jimi: All Is by My Side. He’s also had roles on shows like Class of 3000, The Shield, and American Crime. On Dispatches from Elsewhere, he plays Fredwynn, a conspiracy theorist obsessed with solving the show’s mysterious puzzle while learning to put some of his ambition aside if he ever hopes to develop real personal relationships.

Sally Field as Janice

A film and TV legend, Sally Field has been a recognizable face since Gidget in 1965. She's won two Oscars, the first for 1979’s Norma Rae and the second for 1984’s Places in the Heart. She was also nominated for her turn in 2012’s Lincoln. Other TV work includes shows like The Flying Nun, The Girl with Something Extra, Sybil, ER, Brothers & Sisters, and Netflix’s Maniac. On Dispatches from Elsewhere, Field plays Janice, a former homemaker turned empty-nester, who must reclaim her own identity as she faces the possibility of losing her husband of 30 years.

Eve Lindley as Simone

Having made her screen debut just four years ago in the 2016 Katie Holmes-directed film All We Had, Lindley only has a handful of credits to her name, including her turn as Hot Carla on Mr. Robot, her role as Frida on Outsiders, and a guest appearance on HBO’s High Maintenance. On Dispatches from Elsewhere, Lindley plays Simone, who must learn to overcome her overwhelming insecurities if she hopes to succeed on the mysterious journey.

Richard E. Grant as Octavio Coleman

Grant first made waves back in 1987 with his memorable turn as Withnail in the film Withnail & I, and has remained a constant onscreen presence over the past three decades. He’s had roles in films like The Player, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Gosford Park, and Logan, as well as TV shows like Doctor Who, Girls, Downton Abbey, and A Series of Unfortunate Events. He was nominated for an Oscar for his work in 2018’s Can You Ever Forgive Me?, and turned in a brief but notable performance as the villainous General Pryde in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. On Dispatches from Elsewhere, he plays Octavio Coleman, the eccentric narrator who guides viewers and the show’s four characters on their life-changing journey.

Dispatches from Elsewhere premieres on AMC Sunday, March 1st at 10:00 PM ET. It settles into its regular timeslot the following night, where it will air Mondays at 10:00 PM ET through April.
