After airing its series finale last year, Netflix's Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is returning for one last adventure this week with a brand new special, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. The Reverend. Similar to the Black Mirror: Bandersnatch special that premiered on Netflix two years ago, the new Kimmy Schmidt adventure is an interactive episode, one where viewers choose which paths Kimmy (Ellie Kemper) and the rest of the show's characters take.
The special won't just feature the return of the show's main cast, as a number of new and returning guest stars also make appearances (depending on which path you choose). Here's a quick rundown of the familiar faces you may run into in Kimmy vs. The Reverend:
Playing Kimmy’s lovable and quirky new fiancé, Prince Frederick Windsor, is none other than Daniel Radcliffe. Arguably the special’s biggest guest star, Radcliffe will forever be known for his work in the Harry Potter films, but Kimmy vs. The Reverend isn’t the first time the actor has stretched his comedic muscles on screen. He recently starred in the first two seasons of TBS’ offbeat fantasy comedy Miracle Workers, and has also appeared in a handful of film comedies, including Guns Akimbo, What If, and Swiss Army Man.
Fred Armisen is one of the most recognizable comedy personalities of the past 20 years. In the years since he completed his 11-year stint on Saturday Night Live!, Armisen has gone on to star in, and sometimes co-create beloved TV comedies like Portlandia, Documentary Now!, Forever, and Los Espookys, just to name a few. He previously appeared on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt as the show’s fictionalized version of Robert Durst.
Primarily known for his work as a singer, Josh Groban has been steadily adding acting credits to his resume in recent years. His performance as Tony Caruso Jr. in the short-lived Netflix original series, The Good Cop, remains his most sizable on screen role to date, while some of his other credits include guest roles on Life in Pieces and The Office, and supporting roles in films like Crazy, Stupid, Love and The Hollars. He has also appeared as himself on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Parks and Recreation, and The Muppets.
One of comedy’s great jack-of-all-trades, Chris Parnell has been turning in memorable work ever since his days as an SNL cast member in the late 90s and early 2000s. Of the many TV and film credits he’s accrued over the years, highlights include his recurring guest turn as Dr. Leo Spaceman on 30 Rock, his work as Cyril on FX’s Archer, and his voice performance as Jerry Smith on Rick and Morty. He previously appeared in one episode of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt as an NFL team owner named Junior.
A Tina Fey favorite, Jack McBrayer is best known for his performance as Kenneth Parcel on 30 Rock. He is also known for his voice performance as Fix-it-Felix Jr. in both of Disney’s Wreck-it-Ralph films, as well as for his memorable supporting turn as Darald in Forgetting Sarah Marshall. He appears in Kimmy vs. The Reverend as Sandy Parcell, a guard at the prison where Jon Hamm’s Reverend Wayne is being held.
Johnny Knoxville made a name for himself as one of the stars and co-creators of the MTV series Jackass, which went on to spawn three feature films. In the years since Jackass, he’s made films like Bad Grandpa and Action Point. He stars in the Kimmy Schmidt special as a gas station owner named C.J.
Viewers will recognize Heidi Gardner as a current cast member on Saturday Night Live!, where she’s created memorable characters like Bailey Gismert, the teen film critic, and Angel, the stereotypical girlfriend character in every boxing movie ever made. Outside of her work on SNL, Gardner starred as Leonor in the Melissa McCarthy comedy Life of the Party, and provided the voice of Cooch on the Crackle animated series, SuperMansion. Unlike several of the other stars on this list, she never appeared in the first four seasons of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
A comedy juggernaut, Sedaris’ TV career dates back to her work on mid-1990s Comedy Central shows like Exit 57 and Strangers with Candy. Sedaris may be better known for some of her more recent work though, like her truTV comedy series At Home with Amy Sedaris, or for her voice performance as Princess Carolyn on Netflix’s BoJack Horseman. She previously appeared on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt in a recurring guest role as Mimi Kanassis.
As its title suggests, Jon Hamm will be reprising his role as the dastardly Reverend Richard Wayne Gary Wayne in Kimmy vs. the Reverend. Outside of his work on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Hamm is best known for his iconic turn as Don Draper in AMC’s Mad Men, for which he won two Golden Globes and one Emmy. Meanwhile, in addition to his work on Mad Men and Kimmy Schmidt, Hamm’s other TV credits include Good Omens, Legion, Childrens Hospital, Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp, Black Mirror, A Young Doctor's Notebook & Other Stories, and 30 Rock.
