With Saved By The Bell coming back for a single-camera reinvention series next week, the subject of Screech just keeps coming up. You may recall that Dustin Diamond, the actor who portrayed Screetch on the original series, had some serious personal issues a while back that included jail time and sex tapes. The reboot's showrunner,Tracy Wigfield has said they do mention Screech in the new series and have dropped Easter eggs for the fans, but seemed to indicate he won't be appearing in the first season at all.
Elizabeth Berkley confirmed as much Tuesday night on the Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen After Show while also revealing that she hasn't spoken to Diamond since 1993.
"I haven't talked to him in a long time," she said. "Honestly, I think, since we finished the show was the last time I spoke to him, but not because of anything bad. I mean, he was always nice to me and he's had his journey, but yeah, really, I've kept more in touch with Mark-Paul (Gosselar), Tiffani (Thiessen), Mario (Lopez), and from time to time, Lark (Voorhies)."
Saved By The Bell premieres November 25 on Peacock.
Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen airs Sunday through Thursday at 11:00 PM ET on Bravo.
