John Mulaney's Saturday Night Live return this weekend saw the four-time host pen a timely new addition to his series of musical sketches about the sketchiest parts of New York, this time set in a Covid-era Times Square souvenir shop.
When Pete Davidson wants to buy unwrapped underpants that say "I Love NY" so that his "modest bulge" can show support for the city, the Times Square Minion (Kenan Thompson) breaks into a version of "Luck Be A Lady" from Guys and Dolls, followed by "One" from A Chorus Line."
Kate McKinnon also shows up as Shrimp Louie, the Bubba Gump shrimp mascot, to croon a version of "Send In The Clowns" from A Little Night Music, wondering when the crowds will return to the city, while Beck Bennett is "The Diddler on the Roof."
Maya Rudolph (who might as well be an SNL regular again) then checks in as the Statue of Liberty with a verion of "I'm Still Here" from Follies, Chloe Fineman does a "super-spreader" version of "Hey Big Spender" from Sweet Charity, and the entire company brings it all home with rendition of "One Day More" from Les Miserables, but it's "three days more" until the election.
