John Mulaney returned to Late Night With Seth Meyers last night for his first television appearance since Meyers and others staged an intervention that ended with the comic in rehab for two months last winter.
As Mulaney tells Meyers in the above clip, the intervention was the low point of an eventful year that included two stints in rehab, an SNL hosting gig, a breakup with his wife of X years, and newfound love and — breaking news — a baby on the way with actress Olivia Munn.
It's been quite the turn of events for Mulaney, whom Meyers recalled being "a square" during the years they worked together at Saturday Night Live. "Yeah," Mulaney agreed, "you weren't like 'that's tabloid fodder right there, that guy."
The two went on to discuss the intervention, which Mulaney described as a "'We Are the World' of alternative comedians over the age of 40," and the comic's two eyebrow-raising appearances on Late Night last fall, which (despite all appearances), he says he performed sober.
Late Night with Seth Meyers airs weeknights at 12:35 PM ET on NBC.
