Like it or not, Seth Meyers is taking A Closer Look (but hopefully not a literal one) at Rep. Madison Cawthorn's claims that members of the GOP are participating in sex parties and doing "key bumps" of cocaine around Washington, D.C.
In a Wednesday night segment, the late night host explored the bombastic allegations, which have put Cawthorn at odds with Republican leaders, in a way that only he could. "This is truly an amazing turn in the evolution of the Republican Party," said Meyers. "They whipped up their base into believing crazy shit. That base then elected a bunch of crazy people who believe that crazy shit. And now those crazy people are accusing their fellow Republicans of engaging in wild, drug-fueled sex parties."
"Also, I gotta say, if they were having orgies and doing cocaine, I would actually find that impressive. They're all 70 and 80 years old," he added. "If you told me Chuck Grassley was snorting blow and boning nonstop, I'd be like, 'Damn, maybe he's more with it than I thought!' Also, 'Chuck Grassley,' just gonna say it: pretty good name for an adult film star."
Late Night with Seth Meyers airs weeknights at 12:35 AM ET on NBC.
