HBO Max Doc Fake Famous Tries to Create Its Own Social Media Influencers

The illusory nature of the "famous influencer" is explored and exposed in the new HBO documentary Fake Famous. 

The film follows an experiment conducted to see if a group of random people could be made famous using all the tricks of the trade, including buying fake followers, fake likes, fake comments and fake forms of social media engagement. 

"There's so much that goes into portraying something that's not really there," one of the aspiring influencers says in this trailer. "It's a complete circus." 

Fake Famous premieres February 2 at 9:00 PM ET on HBO Max.
