Thomas Talks Smack About Brooke to Hope on The Bold and the Beautiful

Hope's mother Brooke has been talking smack to Thomas about how she thinks he's still obsessed with Hope and dangerous for her, so Thomas is now talking directly to Hope about Brooke's smack-talk in order to undercut any effect it might have on Hope's opinion of him. Is he being earnest or is he playing the long game of manipulation?
