With her time on The View waning, Meghan McCain went all-out for the Second Amendment during a discussion about the United States' gun violence epidemic. The conservative co-host insisted that she's "proud" to be both a gun owner and an NRA member, and she shaded her co-hosts, who have less experience with guns, for attempting to offer solutions. "I'm a gun owner. I'm an NRA member. I'm proud to be both," she said. "I never want to be lectured to by people who don't own guns."
True to form, McCain diverged from her co-hosts during a Hot Topics discussion about a Thursday night shooting in Washington, D.C. and the root causes of gun violence. After Sunny Hostin said that African-Americans have started buying guns in large numbers due to concerns about "white supremacy, the pandemic, and police violence," statistics that support the idea that increased gun ownership is "not about a rise in crime," but "about people feeling safe," McCain balked.
"Well, what makes me feel unsafe is rising crime," replied the conservative co-host, before saying that "D.C. has a huge problem" with "crime getting out of control" and rising gun violence.
McCain then turned her attention back to Hostin's earlier comment, saying that she "never wants to be lectured to by ... people who didn't grow up in gun culture, who don't understand why women like me want to be armed, want to be safe in my home. Want to know that if there was an intruder, that my husband would be able to protect me and my baby."

"It's a very hard thing for people to understand if they don't believe in it," continued McCain. "It's one of the most polarizing issues in the United States of America, but going forward, I will always vote for any person in any party that continues to defend the Second Amendment, no matter what happens. It is the cornerstone of who I am and what I believe America should be."
