"This is stupid. I don't want to wear a mask any more."
Meghan McCain is making her feelings about the new mask mandates clear. On Thursday morning, The View co-host insisted that the government is over-reacting to the "low level of deaths" caused by the Delta variant, and she said she feels she was "lied to" and "given wrong information" by the scientific community. "America is mentally, emotionally, and spiritually sick, as well as having the virus of COVID," said McCain.
While her co-hosts seemed fine (albeit less than excited) with the new mask mandates issued by the White House, the federal government, and some cities and states, McCain had "a whole different take and perspective" on the issue. "When the mask mandate was reenacted in D.C., I think I was just surprised because D.C. has one of the highest vaccination rates in the country, as well as having one of the lowest hospitalization and death rates. It's very, very, very small," she said. "If D.C. isn't good enough in any of this, then I guess no other state will [be]."
McCain added that while she doesn't want to wear a mask, she will "because ABC mandates it" in their offices. "I wonder what's going to happen going into the fall as the regular flu comes, along with, obviously, more and more variants," continued the conservative co-host. "I have always been trepidatious about what the future held because I felt like I had been if not lied to — if that's too extreme for all of you — just been given wrong information that's just been amended and amended throughout this entire pandemic."
WHAT WILL CHANGE MINDS OF UNVACCINATED? As the delta variant continues to spread, the CDC is telling people to put their masks back on in certain places even if you’re vaccinated — the co-hosts react and weigh in on more companies mandating vaccines. https://t.co/AhpC1le5uq pic.twitter.com/2STFSabZt8

"There are just citizens of this country that aren't going to do this. They aren't going to stand for this," said McCain. "And I think what you will end up seeing is a completely divided America where people who don't want to live under these kinds of restrictions and are willing to take the risk, no matter the judgement of people on this panel and people in politics — they are willing to take that kind of risk and live in a state that is freer. And then we'll see other people that are more comfortable living in places like D.C. and New York and California that will continue to probably have mask mandates forever and probably having some form of lockdowns going into the fall."
