"I heard you crying. I came into your room five minutes after, and I didn't hug you. I didn't comfort you. I thought it would be wrong to comfort you. I didn't tell you that it would be okay, because I never believed, I never believed, I never have believed that it would be okay."
In 2015, after the news broke that the killers of Michael Brown would go free, Ta-Nehisi Coates published a letter he wrote to his teenage son about his experiences growing up in Baltimore, the notion that American society is structured to support white supremacy, and the challenges the young man would have to face in his life. The HBO special event Between the World and Me brings together a wide range of voices to bring this letter to a new kind of life. Oprah Winfrey, Phylicia Rashad, Black Thought, Mahershala Ali, Angela Bassett, Joe Morton, and many more appear in this teaser.
Between the World and Me premieres November 21 on HBO.
