85% of artists in major American art museum collections are white. 1.2% are black.
That distressing fact opens this trailer for the new HBO documentary Black Art: In the Absence of Light, which tells the story of David Driskell's landmark effort to organize the "Two Centuries of Black American Art" exhibition in 1976 that shined a light on that discrepancy and exposed black artists to a new audience.
Black Art: In the Absence of Light premieres February 9 at 9:00 PM ET on HBO.
