Producers may have kept the fact that last night's Jeopardy! would air on the one year anniversary of Alex Trebek's death from guest host Ken Jennings, but they made sre to pay tribute to the legendary host at the end of the episode.
In a title card following the show's closing credits, producers wrote: "Alex Trebek, July 22, 1940 - November 8, 2020. You are missed every day."
Trebek's shadow still looms large over the show as the search for his replacement continues. In a video posted to Jeopardy!'s YouTube channel Monday, Jennings reflected on being back in the studio and feeling like Trebek was still there in some way, commenting it's hard to not talk about in the present tense.
Jennings went on to tell the story of how Trebek's widow Jean had gifted him with a pair of the legendary host's cufflinks shortly after his death when Jennings had returned to guest host the show.
"What a lovely gesture that was for Jean," Jennings says in the clip. At a time that was very hard for her family, dealing with a lot of grief and a lot of challenges, she thought about Jeopardy! and she thought about me — a person she'd never even met."
