Since dropping out of public eye two years ago in the wake of multiple allegations of sexual assault, Kevin Spacey has posted an annual Christmas Eve message (2018, 2019) in character as Frank Underwood, the role he played in Netflix's House of Cards.
In this year's just-posted new message (above), Spacey drops Underwood's southern drawl after a short introduction and instead speaks in his own voice, saying he's heard from may people over the course of 2020 and that "heartbreakingly, so many have talked about things having gotten so bad for them that they have contemplated taking their own lives, and that’s enough for me to want to take an entirely different approach this year.”
Spacey alludes to his own problems in the message, promising those thinking about self-harm that "it does get better." The video ends with a phone number for the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration hotline.
