Taylor Swift appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to promote her re-recording of her 2008 album Fearless, and to address a longstanding question, at least in Colbert's mind: whether or not her song from that album entitled "Hey Stephen" is about him.
It seems that Swift sent a signed copy of Fearless to Colbert back in 2009 when he was still doing The Colbert Report, and although the "Stephen Colbert" character from that show was the one insisting that the song was about him, the current Colbert stood by that assertion, and he directly asked Swift about it.
Swift denied it repeatedly, although she did so in such a way that continually led Colbert to disbelieve her. She dropped in-depth knowledge of arcane details about his life (including his social security number), and revealed her "mood board" from that era, which was just a giant collage of him... and a piece of pizza. When pressed, she broke down and claimed the song was about Stephen King instead.
"That seems like a 'you' thing," Swift said when Colbert didn't believe her denial. "I think it's something that you should process, and then take the feeling that you're feeling and just shake it off. Right? But that song IS about you."
