Creator Michael Rauch announced via Twitter that his summer police procedural, starring Cumming and Bojana Novakovic, won't be renewed for a third season, with the remaining episodes doubling up so that the series finale will air next Sunday, Aug. 25. Instinct was groundbreaking because, as Matt Zoller Seitz pointed out last month, "Cumming is playing the first openly gay lead on a network drama in the entire history of the medium. Yeah, you read that right. Other prominent LGBTQ characters have been featured in CBS ensembles — Archie Panjabi’s bisexual Kalinda Sharma on The Good Wife might be the best of the last decade — but not one has been placed at the center of a show and written into every important scene."
