The former co-host of ESPN's canceled High Noon is an expert when it comes to talking about race. But ESPN embarked on shying away from controversial issues like race and politics after new president Jimmy Pitaro took over in 2018. The Black Lives Matter protests last summer, however, made Jones -- who signed a new deal last year keeping him at ESPN through 2022 -- a valuable voice. His conversation on the Bubba Wallace noose incident with white colleague Will Cain, who's now at Fox News, even grabbed headlines. But six months later, without a show that he's hosting, Jones is still trying to figure out his place at ESPN. “ESPN is still the number one place in the game to be if what you want to do is talk about sports,” he says, adding: "No matter what happens, there’s always going to be somebody like The Wire was for HBO. The Wire didn’t get great ratings, but they wanted to say they had The Wire. It looked good on the masthead. ESPN’s going to have people like that. I just don’t know who they are.”
